Build an Emergency Safety Kit

After you’ve established your family plan, you’ll want to create a supply kit for everyone in your household. Everyone should have basic items on-hand to survive for at least three days after an emergency occurs.

At minimum, your kit should include:

  1. Water: One gallon per person, per day
  2. Food: Three day supply of non-perishable items
  3. Protein bars, canned fruits and vegetables (plus a can opener), nuts and crackers
  4. Radios, flashlights and extra batteries
  5. Cellphone chargers
  6. First aid kit
  7. Sanitation items
  8. Local maps
  9. Tools to turn off utilities
  10. Copies of important documents in a waterproof container
  11. Necessary medications

Additional items to consider:

  1. Matches or a lighter
  2. Cash
  3. Infant formula, diapers, clothing and medications
  4. A blanket
  5. Extra clothing
  6. Pet supplies
    1. Food and water Medications
    2. Leashes, crates or cages
    3. Veterinary records
    4. First aid kit
    5. Current photo of animal for identification purposes
  7. A comforting item for a child or pet
  8. Feminine items
