After you’ve established your family plan, you’ll want to create a supply kit for everyone in your household. Everyone should have basic items on-hand to survive for at least three days after an emergency occurs.
At minimum, your kit should include:
- Water: One gallon per person, per day
- Food: Three day supply of non-perishable items
- Protein bars, canned fruits and vegetables (plus a can opener), nuts and crackers
- Radios, flashlights and extra batteries
- Cellphone chargers
- First aid kit
- Sanitation items
- Local maps
- Tools to turn off utilities
- Copies of important documents in a waterproof container
- Necessary medications
Additional items to consider:
- Matches or a lighter
- Cash
- Infant formula, diapers, clothing and medications
- A blanket
- Extra clothing
- Pet supplies
- Food and water Medications
- Leashes, crates or cages
- Veterinary records
- First aid kit
- Current photo of animal for identification purposes
- A comforting item for a child or pet
