Transportation – Public Perception

How am I driving?

It has been estimated that up to a third of all road traffic accidents involve somebody who is at work at the time.  This may account for over 20 fatalities and 250 serious injuries every week.

Each Palomar College Fleet Vehicle displays a clear identification which shows the vehicle belongs to the college.  “How am I driving” information appears on the back of each vehicle (which includes the Facilities Office’s main phone number – 760/744-1150, extension 2629).

College vehicles are highly visible and represent a valuable resource to the institution and the Facilities Office Fleet Vehicles.  Drivers should be cognizant of the potential for influencing public opinion regarding the institution by their operation of college vehicles.  Complaints received regarding the improper operation of college vehicles may result in corrective or disciplinary action to the driver by his or her department.

This information allows others to call and report an unsafe driving incident to the Facilities Office which includes the date, time and location and a brief description of the incident.

It is the responsibility of the Facilities Office to notify the driver’s Director/Department Chairperson, their Dean or Vice-President and the Environmental Health & Safety Manager regarding these types of incidents.

Negligent operation of a motor vehicle is totally unacceptable and should cease immediately.  All Palomar College Fleet Vehicles must obey the laws of the road.
