Mission Statement
Custodial Services is responsible for maintaining a clean environment within all buildings maintained by Palomar College including cleanliness of the interior, entryways, porches, steps, etc., of all academic and administrative buildings. We perform our daily cleaning in a variety of areas such as classrooms, hallways, offices, labs, examining rooms, athletic areas, special technical areas, stairwells, patios, porches, steps and entrances. We provide exceptionally clean and sanitary environments for Palomar College students, faculty, staff and visitors committed to achieving excellence in teaching, learning and service.
Special services not included in routine maintenance may be requested as needed through a work order via Facilities Remedy.
On the San Marcos Campus we perform most of our duties in three main shifts. First, our dayshift has a start time of 6:00 a.m. and runs until 2:30 p.m. The secondary shift begins at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 5:00 p.m. Our swing shift starts at 2:00 p.m. and runs until 10:30 p.m.
About Custodial Services
The Custodial Services area of the Facilities Department is dedicated to providing a safe and secure learning community that complements the mission of the College, cultivates an appreciation for diversity, and contributes to individual development.
Cleanliness is an important component of the safety and security of the campus communities which includes all College buildings on the San Marcos Campus, Escondido Center, Fallbrook Education Center and Rancho Bernardo Education Center. The central objective of Custodial Services operations is to maintain a clean living and study environment which includes all restrooms, classrooms, offices, work areas, and the exterior sidewalks and patios around all campus buildings. Custodial Services staff maintain established levels of cleanliness in compliance with custodial routines and health and safety procedures. The community’s safety and security is further enhanced by the initiative taken by staff to identify and report building and area maintenance problems and concerns to the Facilities Office.
The Custodial Services area is also responsible for furniture and office moves, classroom event support, special event support which includes setup and take-down clean-up, pest control and a variety of miscellaneous requests for service.
The Custodial Services area works to achieve these goals through our Facilities Office which helps with work efficiency and request status tracking. Custodial Services also works with outside contractors for specialty services for Palomar College.
Note: There will be times we have workers absent from work or it may be required that we shift personnel to provide clean-up after an event. When such events occur or workers are absent, you may notice services are reduced in one or more areas. This will be done to put our resources where they can positively affect the most people.
It is the goal of the Facilities Department to discharge its duties in a timely, courteous and professional manner. In some instances, despite our best efforts, a member of the campus community may be displeased with the service received. Should this occur, the appropriate course of action should be to speak to the Manager, Facilities Operations and seek a resolution. If no resolution is forthcoming or the problem persists, please document the situation providing as much information as possible and email it to the Director, Facilities or if the problem requires immediate action, please call us at extension 2629.
