About Construction & Facilities Planning

Mission Statement

Facilities Planning  & Capital Projects provides the management for programming, planning, architecture, engineering and construction of new or remodeled major capital projects in support of the college’s academic mission.  We advocate for excellence in the planning, design and construction of all facilities within the college’s built and natural environment for the benefits of current and future generations of college students, faculty and staff.

Construction & Facilities Planning is also responsible for tracking and maintaining all space data, such as floor plans, square footages, and departmental areas for the college.  They also develop the Five-year Capital Outlay and Scheduled Maintenance Plans.

About the Department

The Construction & Facilities Planning area of the Facilities Department provides a full-range of facilities planning services from minor remodeling projects up to and including major new building construction. The manager works with architectural and engineering teams, campus user groups and Facilities Department staff from the concept design through the Division of the State Architect approval process. The projects are then forwarded to the Facilities Department Construction Manager.

The Manager continues to participate during the construction process to ensure the project proceeds smoothly and the needs of the various agencies and user groups are satisfied. Facilities Planning works to achieve these goals by tracking and reporting the major facilities planning activities on a monthly basis.

Construction & Facilities Planning services have increased with the passage of Prop M and the sale of the Series “A” Bonds for $160 million. Facilities staff are currently working with nine (9) architectural and engineering teams and campus user groups on the design of the new buildings and renovation projects.
