Our Maintenance Electricians install, maintain and repair the College’s electrical systems, including high-voltage distribution systems, building electrical systems, fire and intrusion alarms, and various electrical and electronic equipment.
Our Maintenance Electricians have also been very proactive in reducing our electrical consumption by upgrading lighting systems to more energy efficient lighting.
The following are examples of services provided by the Electric Shop that are generally not chargeable to the requesting department:
- Replacing and repairing of interior and exterior lamps and fixtures (this does not include desk, table or floor lamps)
- Repair and reset of existing fire alarms
- Replace diffusers on light fixtures
- Replace outlets and wall switches
- Replace light bulbs, ceiling light fixtures, exterior building lights, walkway lights and parking lot lights
- Reset tripped circuit breakers
- Repair wall clocks
Services that are usually charged to the requesting department include:
- Upgrading existing or installing new light fixtures, lighting equipment or receptacles
- Installing cabling for computer equipment
- Repair electrical problems related to department owned equipment
- Install wall clocks
- Install/repair intrusion alarms

Campus Clocks:
GPS/Satellite clocks are located in various campus buildings. These clocks pick up a signal by satellite and automatically adjust and change time during the spring and fall. If a clock does not automatically change within 48 hours, please submit an e-mail via Facilities Remedy and our Maintenance Electricians will be dispatched to make the correction.
Master Clock System
The College operates a master clock system. Any malfunction of the system or an individual clock connected to a master clock should be reported by submitting an e-mail via Facilities Remedy.
Nature of Work:
Electricians install and maintain all of the electrical and power systems for our homes, businesses, and factories. They install and maintain the wiring and control equipment through which electricity flows. They also install and maintain electrical equipment and machines in factories and a wide range of other businesses.
Electricians specializing in maintenance fix and upgrade existing electrical systems and repair electrical equipment. All electricians must follow State and local building codes and the National Electrical Code when performing their work.
Electricians usually start their work by reading blueprints—technical diagrams that show the locations of circuits, outlets, load centers, panel boards, and other equipment. After determining where all the wires and components will go, electricians install and connect the wires to circuit breakers, transformers, outlets, or other components and systems.
When installing wiring, electricians use hand tools such as conduit benders, screwdrivers, pliers, knives, hacksaws, and wire strippers, as well as power tools such as drills and saws. Later, they use ammeters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, harmonics testers, and other equipment to test connections and ensure the compatibility and safety of components.
Maintenance electricians repair or replace electric and electronic equipment when it breaks. They make needed repairs as quickly as possible in order to minimize inconvenience. They may replace items such as circuit breakers, fuses, switches, electrical and electronic components, or wire.
Electricians also periodically inspect all equipment to ensure that it is operating properly and to correct problems before breakdowns occur.
