Timber Frame Project 2004 – Day 12
Today was the day. Lots of people…lots of work…lots of onlookers. Everyone gathered at the Museum at 8:00 this morning, and after a few words from Chris, timbers were sorted and laid in place for construction of the bents. Pegs were signed, a few minor adjustments were made to some mortises and tenons…the first 2 bents were put together and raised before lunch. Pizzas were provided and after a short lunch period, it was back to work.
The raising of the second 2 bents was done in the late afternoon. They all now rest in a temporary location, waiting the completion of the foundation. When it is finished, Chris will let everyone know via email when the final work party is scheduled to complete the stage (probably in a couple of weeks). Many thanks to United Rentals of North San Diego County for their donation of the equipment to lift the bents into place. Without them the project would have been much harder and longer.
Just a few pictures tonight; more will be available soon and still more when the stage is completed. Be sure to check in periodically.
