Shop Layout / Design & Machine Tool Technology
This class will combine two critical areas necessary to the woodworker’s success-design and layout of the work space combined with a working knowledge of how to buy, maintain, service, tune and repair tools and machinery. Students learn that they are dependent not only on their skills, but also on their tools and machines. In addition to invaluable information on shop machines-such as disc sanders, boring machines, edge banders, panel saws, etc. Students practice specific skills such as changing jointer knives, tuning machines such as table saws and band saws and jointers. Preventative maintenance is also discussed. Consumer information, as applied to potential acquisition of tools and machines is studied. Additionally, students will be able to rebuild and restore their own equipment, as well as acquiring hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy industrial equipment.
