LVN to RN Application Information

Program Details

This program is 3 semesters long. NOTE that this program admits on a space available basis only. The application process is competitive, and applicants are evaluated based on the Multi-Criteria Point System. Seats in the LVN-RN program are offered to applicants with the highest points. Once enrolled, the student will start the program in the second semester and N117-MS will not be required. We do not keep a waiting list of students. We do encourage you to reapply or apply to our Generic RN program, should you not be initially admitted to the program.

Admission Requirements

  • A current active California LVN license in good standing from an accredited LVN program
  • High school diploma or equivalency or higher degree (Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s in any subject)
  • Proof of minimum 6 months work experience as an LVN/LPN
  • Successful completion of all prerequisite coursework
    • No grade lower than a “C” for every class required, general education and nursing, will be accepted
  • Successful completion of the TEAS exam with a score of 62% or higher
  • OPTIONAL: Successful completion of an LVN to RN transition course

How to Apply

1. Review the Application Checklist to confirm you have all your documents ready for uploading

  • A copy of your high school diploma, GED, CHSPE, OR highest level of US degree awarded (Associate, Bachelor’s or Master’s in any subject)
  • All unofficial transcripts of coursework (including those from Palomar College)
  • All unofficial copies of TEAS attempts – including outdated exams
  • A copy of your current California LVN license
  • Supporting documentation for any points attempting to be received for any other category

2. Fill out and complete the Online LVN to RN Application

  • Make sure that your documents are in PDF format and named correctly for an easy and quick application experience.
  • You will receive a confirmation email once submitted.
    • If you need to step away and complete your application at another time, you will receive a special link to resume your application.

LVN Multi-Criteria Point Calculation

Important information to review before applying:

  • Palomar ID:
    • You must register with Palomar College to obtain a student ID number before you submit your application. Your Palomar ID is a requirement on the application.
  • Transcripts:
    • Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for the application process. Make sure all pages are included.
      • If accepted to the program, official transcripts will be required at that time.
    • If you attended Palomar College, we will need to submit a copy of these transcripts as well.
  • Required Courses:
    • All required courses must be completed and have a grade issued; otherwise we cannot calculate your GPA.
    • No grade lower than a “C” will be accepted for all required courses, general education and nursing, for the associate’s degree.
    • If you are using AP scores to clear a GE requirement, please submit a copy of the score report. We will not accept a college transcripts that shows AP scores as credit.
  • ATI TEAS exams:
    • All copies of the attempted TEAS exams must be submitted, including prior expired versions and non-passing scores.
      • You can print free copies directly from your account on the ATI website.
    • The TEAS Version 7 was implemented on June 3, 2022. We will currently accept both the TEAS Version 6 & Version 7 for Spring 2023 & Fall 2023.
      • We will start to only accept TEAS Version 7 for the Spring 2024 application period and moving forward.
    • If your first passing attempt was with TEAS Version 6 and you would like to try for a higher score, we will accept the TEAS Version 7 without you having to wait 2 years. Therefore, the TEAS Version 7 will be considered your first attempt with that version.
  • Application Processing:
    • Applications will close on the last day. No late applications will be accepted.
    • We do not keep transcripts or applications on file. All application documents are shredded after the completion of the selection process.
      • If you are reapplying, you will need to resubmit your application and supporting documents.
    • The application process takes several weeks to complete.
    • Once accepted applicants are selected, we notify them in groups. Not all applicants are notified at one time.
      • All notifications are sent to the email address provided on the application.
    • Every applicant will receive a notification of their admission decision.
