Instruction

Upon the request of course instructors, librarians provide customized library instruction sessions designed to help students complete course assignments and improve students’ information literacy skills.

Information Literacy

In support of its Mission, the Palomar College Library collaborates with faculty from various academic departments to assess and improve students’ information literacy skills. WASC defines information literacy, also know as information competency, as the “capability to access, evaluate, and use information in fulfillment of coursework and independent study.” (ACCJC/WASC Accreditation Standards).

  • Information Literacy Student Learning Outcomes – The library created a set of information literacy learning outcomes to assess library instruction and to promote the integration of information literacy across the curriculum.

  • Faculty/Librarian Collaboration – Palomar Librarians are willing and interested in working with faculty to integrate information literacy into course curricula. We will consult with faculty to:

    • Develop course specific information literacy student learning outcomes
    • Create successful research assignments
    • Teach and assess information literacy skills

  • Instructional Materials – the Palomar Library has a bank of information literacy instructional materials that course instructors may integrate into their courses. Please contact April Cunningham for more information.
