How to access Reserve items such as Textbooks and other course materials

Library Reserves

Instructors sometimes place materials on Reserve with the Library. Through funding from the Palomar Foundation’s President’s Associates group the Library also purchases some textbooks to place on Reserve. You can search for these materials through the Library ’s catalog.

Most of these items can be checked out for two hours, in-library use only. Some can be checked out for longer periods (e.g. overnight, 3 days, 1 week). A few are available for semester long use per Instructor request.

Scanned Textbook Documents

Some Instructors provide access to scanned pages from course textbooks. Those are available to enrolled students as files on the course Canvas site. Contact you instructor if your textbook is not held by the library, to ask if they are willing to provide this access. They can request scanning of textbook pages using the Scanning Request form.

Obtaining assistance for Textbooks through Palomar COVID-19 Grants

Covid-19 relief grants are funded through a variety of Federal and State Covid 19 related resources. Qualified students can apply for grants to cover costs of attending college, including the purchase of books. Use the Financial Aid’s COVID-19 Grant resource to learn about the program. You can apply for the grant through your MyPalomar account.
