2008-09

Embody the dignity of our profession by approaching with foresight and acting with authority on academic and professional matters.

Senate:

  1. Develop a process for administrative retreat rights.

 

  1. Develop a procedure for addressing a faculty member’s charge that a student has engaged in academic dishonesty.

 

  1. Finalize the accreditation report; prepare for and facilitate the accrediting commission’s site visit.

 

  1. Request regular reports from these areas:
  2. Basic Skills/Title V HSI Committee
  3. Academic Technology Committee
  4. Workforce and Community Development Advisory Group
  5. Academic Technology Resource Center.

 

  1. Increase faculty service on committees and councils by
  2. ensuring that membership calls are sent out regularly,
  3. reminding faculty of the importance of service on councils and committees, and
  4. proposing a requisite number of faculty on administrative hiring committees.

 

  1. Monitor the implementation of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Cycles throughout the college by
  1. requesting regular reports from the Curriculum Committee on the progress of SLOAC reporting in CurricUnet, and
  2. requesting regular reports from the Learning Outcomes Council on SLOACs.


Senate/Other Groups:

  1. Require the college to begin immediately the implementation of the Accreditation Self-Study Planning Agendas. In particular,
  2. as per AB1725, ensure faculty’s collegial consultation with administration on budget planning, specifically with regard to the current budget crisis, and
  3. support the 75/25 Workgroup’s development of a plan to improve the ratio of credit hours taught by full-time faculty to the credit hours taught by part-time faculty while also increasing the number of full-time faculty.

 

  1. Participate in the review and revision of the college’s Policies and Procedures

 

  1. Establish guidelines related to the academic and professional elements of online courses and instruction, including
  2. faculty workload,
  3. faculty performance standards,
  4. student evaluations, and
  5. student access.

General Goal: To embody the dignity of our profession by approaching with foresight and acting with authority on all academic and professional matters.

 

Particular Goals:

 

  1. Define the role of the Faculty Senate Council.

 

  1. Review the work of the Learning Outcomes Council, and enculture the learning outcomes discussion throughout the college.

 

  1. Monitor the updating of Governing Board Policies and Procedures.

 

  1. Affirm the Faculty Senate’s mutuality with the Palomar Faculty Federation, and enter into joint projects.

 

  1. Increase faculty involvement in committees and councils.

 

  1. Review and revise the Faculty Senate website.

 

  1. Reconsider the guidelines and deadlines of the equivalency process.

 

  1. Invite departments and other campus groups to present brief reports to the Faculty Senate.

Overarching Goal:

To increase faculty involvement in shared governance

Operational/Specific Goals:

Develop a process to meet Brown Act requirements for all subcommittees, councils, and boards—a calendar web page.

Continue writing a “Notes from the Senate” column in the LOC newsletter to increase communication between the Senate and faculty members.

Define the role of the Senate Council and make any necessary constitutional changes.

Complete a comprehensive review of the Senate Constitution.

Increase communication between the faculty members of the planning councils and the faculty members of SPC.

Finish the Faculty Manual and Board Policy handbook (ask for budget to provide needed support—assigned time?)

Streamline interaction between PFF and the Senate.

Develop strategy to increase faculty involvement in governance.

Communicate with faculty the importance of maintaining the integrity of the equivalency process.

Review (and rewrite if necessary) the descriptions of the Senate Subcommittees.
