California Dream Act Application (CADAA)
The California Dream Act, enacted in 2011 through Assembly Bills 130 and Assembly Bill 13, provides avenues for eligible undocumented and documented students to access financial aid for higher education. The California Dream Act Application allows students who meet AB 540 criteria to apply for and receive various types of financial aid, including state grants, fee waivers, institutional aid, and scholarships.
Who Qualifies?
If you meet the non-resident exemption requirements under AB 540 AND meet any of the following criteria, you are eligible to complete the California Dream Act Application (CADAA):
- Undocumented
- Have a valid or expired DACA status
- Are a U visa holder
- Have Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
How to Apply
You can access the CADAA application at dream.csac.ca.gov. The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) processes applications, and any aid received can only be used at eligible California institutions.

Financial Aid Available for CADAA Applicants:
The California College Promise Grant (CCPG) is a state-sponsored program that waives enrollment fees for qualifying students. Health fees, Student Center Fees & Rep Fees are not waived under CCPG.

The CalGrant program is one of the most well-known financial aid programs in California, providing assistance to eligible students attending qualifying colleges, universities, and career education programs. CalGrants are awarded based on financial need, academic merit, and other criteria established by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). There are different types of CalGrants, including CalGrant A, B, and C, each tailored to specific student populations and educational goals.

The Student Success Completion Grant (SSCG) is a state-funded program available to Cal Grant B and C recipients attending a California Community College. SSCG provides additional financial assistance to help eligible students cover the cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, books, and other educational expenses. Eligible students must be enrolled full-time and meet certain income criteria.

Extended Opportunities Programs & Services (EOPS) is a supplemental program that provides financial assistance and academic support for students who receive a limited income and have educational barriers. EOPS offers services such as counseling, tutoring, textbook assistance, and priority registration to help students succeed in their educational pursuits.

In addition to state-funded grants, there are numerous scholarships available to students. Scholarships are typically awarded based on various factors, including academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, community service, and demographic background. These scholarships may be offered by private organizations, businesses, community foundations, and educational institutions.

The California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF)
The Live Your Dream Awards offers three levels of cash awards. Eligible applicants can submit their application between August 1 – November 15. Ultimately, a Live Your Dream Awards finalist has the potential to receive up to $16,000 to help offset tuition costs, purchase books, get transportation, or find reliable childcare so she can worry less about how to pay her bills and focus on reaching her dreams.
