Cal Vet Fee Waiver Information

California College Fee Waiver Program
Under the California Education Code, dependents of veterans whose death or disability was service-connected may be eligible for exemption from many College or University fees. Applications and information are available at the Veterans’ Office, located in the Student Services building at the San Marcos campus or from your county Veterans’ Services Office. Please note that in tough economic times, education programs in California are some of the first to get cut or cancelled. With that in mind, check the official Cal Vet web page at https://www.calvet.ca.gov/VetServices/Pages/College-Fee-Waiver.aspx
for possible updates of the form and/or restrictions.

 Instructions for students:

  1. Fill out the Cal Vet Fee Waiver form and send it to the County Veterans Service Office (see address below) with the following attachments:  Attach a copy of your birth certificate.  Attach your CA 540 tax return. You should do this once a year, usually after taxes are done on April 15th.
  2. Submit the Cal Vet Award letter to the Financial Aid Office. You may bring it in person or email it to finaid@palomar.edu from your Palomar Student email address.

In accordance with California Education Code 66025.3:

 (B) The Department of Veterans Affairs shall determine the
eligibility of any applicant for a fee waiver under this paragraph.
             (b) A person who is eligible for a waiver of tuition or fees under
this section may receive a waiver for each academic year during
which he or she applies for that waiver, but an eligible person may
not receive a waiver of tuition or fees for a prior academic year.
