A Colorado native, I earned my B.A. in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at University of Colorado at Boulder in 1998 (Go Buffs!). After teaching preschoolers (with special needs and typically developing) for three years, I moved to San Diego in 2001 to pursue my graduate work. I earned my graduate certificate in Community College Teaching and my M.S. in Child and Family Development at SDSU in 2003. I also have my ECE Program Director permit from the state of CA.

In June 2004, I earned my certifications as a Certified Childbirth Educator (CCE) and a Certified Doula (CD) from UCSD School of Medicine Extension. I earned my certification as a Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) from UCSD in April 2006. I was previously a perinatal and childbirth educator for Scripps Encinitas and Tri-City Medical Center, as well as a birth doula.

I live in Carlsbad with my husband, Ian, and our daughter Zephyr. I enjoy needlework, hand quilting, and embroidery; reading; nail polish and nail art; paddling outrigger canoe; and am slowly learning to play the banjo.

I started teaching at Palomar as an adjunct in Fall 2003, and became a full time faculty member in Fall 2004, receiving tenure in Spring 2008. I have been department chair since Fall 2009. I am actively involved in campus governance and the Palomar Faculty Federation. I love being a part of the Palomar community!
