What are Student Learning Outcomes?
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are overall knowledge, skills, and/or abilities that students are expected to demonstrate after completing a course or program of study at Palomar College. Palomar faculty have identified Course Learning Outcomes for each course and every degree/certificate program. Faculty have also identified a set of General Education and Institutional Learning Outcomes (GEILOs), which are the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities students will have learned by graduation or transfer date.
These learning outcomes are assessed regularly to measure how well students achieve the course and program outcomes. Discipline and program faculty then create action plans to improve assessment results and close any determined equity gaps.
Course and program student learning outcomes, course and program descriptions, course objectives, etc., are available in the curriculum management software, Maverick. General Education and Institutional Learning Outcomes, descriptions, and assessment reports are listed on the GEILO Assessment and Framework webpage.
