Academic Renewal Petition

Purpose: Petition to exclude prior substandard course work from a student’s grade point average which is not reflective of their current demonstrated ability.

Processing Timeframe: Typically 7 – 10 business days, up to 3 weeks during the end of term processing

Academic Review Committee Petition

Academic Review Committee Petition

Purpose: Request an exception to academic policy or procedure
Location: Online or Evaluations Office, SSC-40
Location to Submit: Evaluations Office, SSC-40
Documentation Required: Varies with each student’s reason for petitioning
Processing Timeframe: Typically 1-2 meetings per semester, usually near the end of the term

Petition to Repeat a Course

Purpose: Petition to demonstrate the necessity to retake a course in excess of the allowable limit or to retake a course that you have already passed

Purpose: Request a copy of your diploma or certificate award

Enrollment Priority Petition

Enrollment Priority Petition

(Evaluations Office)
For Group 2 Priority based on student’s last term of enrollment prior to graduation or transfer
Note: This is a once-in-a-lifetime request
Purpose: Declare a registration term as your last term of attendance prior to graduation or transfer in order to receive priority enrollment for that term. This is a once-in-a-lifetime petition for this type of priority enrollment

Purpose: Petition if you have been denied financial aid because you have not made Satisfactory Academic Progress or you have earned an excess of the allowable units. This is the first level appeal.

Graduation Petition

Graduation Petition

  • Associate Degree (60+unit program)
  • Associate Degree for Transfer (60 unit Program)
  • Certificate of Achievement (18+ unit program)
  • Transfer Certification (37-39 units)

Purpose: Apply for a degree or certificate of achievement award, or for general education lower-division certification for transfer to a university

Health Fee Exemption Petition
Purpose: Submit this form if you are the member of a church that depends exclusively on prayer for healing in accordance with the teachings of a bona fide religious sect, denomination or organization.

K12 Special Admission Unit Petition

K12 Special Admission Unit Petition

Purpose: Effective spring 2014, K-12 students are limited to 7 units in spring or fall term and 5 units in the summer session. A student requesting enrollment in excess of these limits must petition to the Director of Enrollment Services

Loss of CCPG Fee Waiver Appeal

Loss of CCPG Fee Waiver Appeal

Purpose: Effective Fall 2016, students that have been on two consecutive semesters of academic probation, progress probation, or a combination of the two, will lose their CCPG fee waiver eligibility.  Submit this form and supporting documentation to appeal the loss of CCPG fee waiver based on an extenuating circumstance or significant academic improvement.

Petition for Refund or Waiver

Petition for Refund or Waiver

Purpose: Complete this form when you are unable to drop classes during the first 14 days of the term or session due to a documented unforeseen emergency or extenuating circumstance. Drops made within the first 14 days of the term do not require a petition form. Students are automatically refunded by the Cashiers Office after the refund deadline.

Petition for Graduation

Petition for Graduation Form

Complete this form and submit to the Evaluations Office, located in the Student Services Center by the following dates for graduation:

  • February 28 for May Graduates
  • June 30 for August Graduates
  • September 30 for December Graduates


Residency Appeal

Residency Appeal Form

Submit this form after you have submitted the Residency Status Change Request and received a denial of in-state residency status.  If you feel that the determination is incorrect, complete this form and submit with documentation that will support your claim for in-state residence status. Submit in person to the Admissions/Financial Aid Office, located in the Student Services Center at San Marcos and allow 5-7 business days for processing.


Student Program Eligibility Appeal

Student Program Eligibility Appeal

Purpose: Submit this form after you have submitted an Appeal to the Director of Financial Aid, Scholarships and Veterans Services or EOPS and received a denial of benefits. The appeal is heard by the Student Program Eligibility Appeals Committee.
Meetings are scheduled:

  • First week of October
  • First week in December
  • Fourth week in April
