The county of San Diego has revised the Childcare Decision Tree which is now titled State and County Requirements on Masking, Testing, and Notifications for San Diego County Childcare Settings.

The new document aligns more with the K-12 guidance and clearly outlines the requirements for both children and employees regarding symptoms, masking, testing, isolation, quarantine, and notifications. Moving forward, this is the document the ECELS will use to guide decisions related to these topics.

We wanted to highlight a few changes that will directly affect your child, however, the entire document is linked above for your reference.

• Symptomatic children:
  • With testing – if a negative test (antigen or PCR) was collected AFTER the start of symptoms, the child may return to school when their symptoms are improving, they can participate in the program, and they have been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine.
    • A second test is recommended, but not required to return.
    • Antigen tests are preferred but both antigen and PCR tests are accepted.
  • Without testing – your child must stay home for 5 days. May return on day 6 if the child is feeling better and has been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine.
• Quarantine/Classroom Closures
  • Although it is not required to close classrooms or quarantine asymptomatic children who were exposed, there may be situations that are deemed “high risk” and a closure may occur. Each exposure will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. However, you will always be notified if an exposure has occurred in your child’s classroom.
  • Exposed children must monitor for symptoms daily and if symptoms develop, stay home and test immediately. They must also test on day 3, 4, or 5 after exposure and wear a mask through day 10 (only children 2 years and older).

El condado de San Diego ha revisado el Childcare Decision Tree, que ahora se titula Requisitos estatales y del Condado sobre uso de mascarillas, pruebas y notificaciones para entornos de cuidado infantil del Condado de San Diego.

El nuevo documento se alinea más con la guía K-12 y describe claramente los requisitos tanto para los niños como para los empleados con respecto a los síntomas, el enmascaramiento, las pruebas, el aislamiento, la cuarentena y las notificaciones. En el futuro, este es el documento que ECELS utilizará para guiar las decisiones relacionadas con estos temas.

Queríamos resaltar algunos cambios que afectarán directamente a su hijo, sin embargo, el documento completo está vinculado arriba para su referencia.

• Niños sintomáticos:
  • Con pruebas – si se obtuvo una prueba negativa (antígeno o PCR) DESPUÉS del inicio de los síntomas, el niño puede regresar a la escuela cuando sus síntomas estén mejorando, puede participar en el programa y no ha tenido fiebre durante 24 horas, sin medicamentos para bajar la fiebre.
    • Se recomienda una segunda prueba, pero no se requiere para regresar.
    • Se prefieren las pruebas de antígenos, pero se aceptan tanto las pruebas de antígenos como las de PCR.
  • Sin pruebas – su hijo debe quedarse en casa durante 5 días. Puede regresar el día 6 si el niño se siente mejor y no ha tenido fiebre durante 24 horas sin medicamentos para bajar la fiebre.
• Cuarentena/Cierres de clases
  • Aunque no se requiere cerrar las clases o poner en cuarentena a los niños asintomáticos que estuvieron expuestos, puede haber situaciones que se consideren de “alto riesgo” y puede ocurrir un cierre. Cada exposición se tratará caso por caso. Sin embargo, siempre se le notificará si se ha producido una exposición en el salón de clases de su hijo.
  • Los niños expuestos deben controlar los síntomas diariamente y, si se desarrollan, quedarse en casa y hacerse la prueba de inmediato. También deben realizar la prueba el día 3, 4 o 5 después de la exposición y usar una máscara hasta el día 10 (solo niños de 2 años en adelante).
