On May 15, 2024, 6:00-7:30pm, we honored our Excellence in Service Learning award recipients for the 2023-2024 school year!

Congratulations to all our Excellence in Service Learning Student Awardees and Students! We love everything you do in our communities. Your passion and heart give us hope for the future. ❤️ Grateful for our faculty who offer invaluable Service Learning experiences in their courses. Thank you to Klaus Kirchhoff for his generous donation toward the student awards! Thank you to Stacy Rungaitis, MS for keeping Service Learning close to her heart. We are lucky for the support from President Star Rivera-Lacey, PhD and our campus community.

Equity & Social Justice Issues in a GIS Mapping Course

Kudos to Professor Wing Cheung’s GIS students for mapping food insecurity in San Diego County and contributing to the grant proposal to plan transportation systems for disadvantaged populations living in San Diego’s North County. Students are solving real-world problems to address issues of equity and social justice while gaining valuable Work-based learning experiences. Big Shout out to the Palomar College ESL department who came together on a Saturday to do a Service Learning beautification project at Palomar’s Early Childhood Education Lab School preschool on the Escondido campus.

Palomar Faculty & Staff Make a Difference

Thank you to all volunteers who participated in Palomar’s Faculty & Staff Make a Difference Day volunteer event!
On Saturday, October 28,  Palomar College Faculty and Staff participated in National Make a Difference Day helping to make our community a better place. Palomar employees served on projects at three local non-profit organizations – TERI Inc., Charity Wings Art & Craft Center, and Escondido Community Child Development Center. Faculty and Staff enjoyed connecting and collaborating with each other and giving back to the community. We hope to make this an annual event!

Do you need assistance with your service learning assignment? Come to the skillshop to understand the benefits of service learning! We will help you get started and answer questions you might have.  Important Note: Remember to bring information your professor provided you about the assignment.
