9/14 Art Center visits Palomar

The presentation will start at 8:00am in C2, and you’ll have a chance to ask questions afterwards.

The ArtCenter is a private, nonprofit, and fully accredited university in Pasadena. CA. They offer 6 Bachelor of Fine Art programs (Creative Direction, Graphic Design, Fine Art, Illustration, Film, and Photography and Imaging) and 5 Bachelor of Science programs (Entertainment Design [Animation, Concept Design, and Game Design], Interaction Design, Spatial Experience Design, Transportation Design, and Product Design).
The purpose of the visit is to familiarize students with the professional creative career opportunities available to them and provide information about the school and showcase current students’ work.

Escondido College Open House

The Escondido At Association Artists Gallery and its partners are holding an event on Saturday Oct. 8th from 5:30-7:30 that will introduce students to local artists, galleries, theaters and more in historic downtown Escondido.  It is a walking tour with opportunities all along the
route.

April 27th – deadline to apply for Art Scholarship

This year due to Covid-19 the Art Department has taken its scholarship competition online. We are excited to have scholarships available for students currently enrolled in at least one Art class this semester. The scholarship competition is being hosted as a Canvas class so if you would like to participate head on over to this link and self-enroll in the class. There is no grade and it will not effect your GPA.

The deadline to submit a completed application, and images of your works of art, is Wed., April 27, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. Scholarship recipients will be listed as an announcement on the scholarship Canvas site. The Palomar College Foundation will also notify winners in writing.

3/17 Chicana Art Talk via Zoom

As part of the Women’s History Month programming Angelica Yanez will be hosting a presentation via Zoom that will showcase the political art of Chicana feminists that engage in a host of social and cultural issues like racism, labor rights, sexuality, and Mexican Native culture. Images will be shown.

The talk is scheduled for 3/17 from 1:30-2:30

Virtual Portfolio Review

Are you thinking of transferring? Take advantage of the National Portfolio Day Association portfolio review. They offer portfolio review events intended

to provide advice on how to improve or present your portfolio, and experience a small taste of what it’s like to attend a professional art or design program.  There are 2 virtual events coming up and their full schedule of events is on the website.

You do need to register ahead of time and the times are listed in Eastern time.

Bravura 2022 accepting submissions

Sunday March 20th 2022 is the deadline to submit your work to be included in the Palomar College literary journal Bravura.In addition to poetry and fiction Bravura is interested in publishing photography, drawing and painting, illustration, digital art, comics, graphic design, and mixed media art. Also published are images of three dimensional arts including sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, metalworking, woodworking, and fashion design

Students currently enrolled at Palomar College, as well as alumni, may submit their work to Bravura. We also accept submissions from former Palomar students (so even if you did not graduate from Palomar, but attended classes at our school at some point, you are eligible to submit). Any high school student enrolled in a high school located in San Diego County will also be able to submit.

February is Museum Month in San Diego

 February is Museum month in San Diego.  You can pick up a pass at your local public library or at a Macy’s store.  A pass is good for 4 1/2 price admissions at one of the 45 participating museums and cultural institutions.
