CHEM 110: General Chemistry I

Course Information

Description: Principles of, and calculations in areas such as atomic structure, solutions, chemical bonding, chemicals formulas and equations, gases, energy transformations accompanying chemical changes, and descriptive chemistry.

SLOs:

  • Application of the Scientific Method — Successful students will be able to apply the scientific method by stating a question, performing
    experiments and/or analyzing a data presentation.
  • Nomenclature — Successful students will be able to name general inorganic compounds.
  • CHEM 110L; Application of the Scientific Method — Successful students will be able to apply the scientific method by stating a question, performing
    experiments and/or analyzing a data presentation.
  • CHEM 110L; Chemical Lab Technique — Successful students will be able to set up and execute general and intermediate chemical reactions in the
    lab using a chemical technique.

Prerequisite:  CHEM 100 or the equivalent college introductory chemistry course with a laboratory with a minimum grade of C; Completion of intermediate algebra or the equivalent, or eligibility or completion of any course between MATH 110 and 245 (excluding MATH 197, MATH 120, or PSYC/SOC 205, or BUS 204) based on multiple measures.

Corequisite (Course required to be taken concurrently): CHEM 110L
