How can I make a Career Counseling appointment?
Please visit or call the Career Center at (760)744-1150 ext. 2194 to speak with a staff member. Career Counseling appointments are held in SU-17 on the San Marcos Campus.
Does the Career Center provide Resume and Cover Letter assistance?
Yes, once you have a good draft, a career counselor will offer constructive comments and suggestions to perfect this job seeking tool. Make an appointment with a Career Counselor to assist you with this process.
I don’t have a resume; how can I start creating one?
The Career Center offers Resume Samples for our visitors to review. We have Resume Templates on our computer desktops. For job seekers in “resume creation stage” these are valuable and user-friendly tools to begin the process. A RESUME TUTORIAL is also available and accessible on our web site. This is a step by step video demonstration on how to create a Chronological Resume. Remember, in writing a resume, you want to paint a picture of yourself and list all your skills, knowledge, and experience as they pertain to you. Creating a resume is a process and it takes time to get it polished.
Does the Career Center provide interview preparation assistance?
Yes, you can schedule an appointment with a career counselor for a Mock Interview. You can also access our online resource Big Interview (you will need your Palomar College email to create your account). Please call or stop in the Career Center for more information.
Do you provide assessments on a walk-in-basis?
Yes, a staff member will walk you through the process on the Eureka site for the TRUE COLORS assessment. They will also direct you to other free self-assessment resources.
Do you offer career exploration classes?
The Career Center hosts Counseling 165 – Career Search, a one unit class (unit can apply to an A.A. Degree and is CSU transferable). This class consists of 4 sessions (A, B, C, D). Each session meets for 4 hours. Career Search is held in the Career Center Lab in SU-17. Session A: MBTI and STRONG INVENTORY and additional in-class activities. Session B: Interpretation of these assessments and additional in class assignments. Session C: Complete Career Services Activity & Career Research Assignment and Written Report. Session D: Informational Interviews, the San Diego Labor Market, and complete a “mock” job search class exercise and other tasks. How do I enroll in COUN 165 (Career Search) class?
Log on to MyPalomar and add the class number you want to enroll in. Please pay close attention to all the dates, times, and locations where Counseling 165 is offered. **
Once enrolled in Counseling 165, you will need to pay a $37 (lecture)/$32 (online) Material Fee at the Cashier’s Office. This fee covers the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and Strong Inventory Assessments that are taken in class. **
