APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED [GC 1031(E)].
- Minimum of 20 years of age (NOTE: The minimum age to be hired is 21, therefore you should not attend unless you are at least 20 years of age) [GC 1031(B)].
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law [CA Senate Bill 960]
- Ability to read, write and speak English consistent with the duties of a peace officer.
- Possess a valid California driver’s license. Active duty military may possess a valid out-of-state driver’s license.
- No felony or misdemeanor convictions in any state or military court that would restrict possession of a firearm [PC 29800/29805].
- If not already registered as a student at Palomar College, complete a Palomar College student application online (www.palomar.edu) and receive a 9-digit student identification number.
- To apply for Module II: Prior successful completion of Module III is required.
- Submit a Basic Police Academy application online with all supporting documentation.
APPLICATION TESTING PROCESS
- Applicants may be required to complete testing as a part of the application process, including a Physical Agility Test (PAT), a written exam, and an interview. Applicants will be contacted about this process after successful completion of the academy application.
- Applicants sponsored by a law enforcement agency or who graduated Module III at Palomar Police College Academy in good standing may have the testing process waived.
CONDITIONS FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE PROGRAM
Upon acceptance into the program, recruits are required to:
- Complete a Live Scan fingerprint check through the California Department of Justice to obtain a criminal history clearance for firearms eligibility. The Live Scan form will be provided upon acceptance into the program.
- Obtain a medical clearance from a qualified medical provider. You must use the Palomar College Police Academy Medical Clearance Entrance Form and have it signed by a medical provider before the first day of the Academy. This form will be provided after acceptance into the program.
- Attend the mandatory Academy Orientation on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
The application deadline for Module II is Friday, February 7, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. You should collect all necessary information and documentation immediately and ensure that you uploaded the required documents with your completed application.
Follow the instructions below for submitting your application:
- Register as a student with Palomar College (obtain 9-digit student ID number). [Student registration instructions]
- Complete this application with complete and accurate information.
- Obtain the following documents, which must be uploaded with the application:
- Palomar College student registration (provide your Palomar student ID number – this is NOT your CCCID number)
- A copy of all college transcripts, if applicable (unsealed, unofficial copies/printouts are acceptable)
- Copy of POST Profile showing completion of Module III (Academy Certificates not accepted in lieu of the POST Profile) [POST Profile is available online at www.post.ca.gov].
- A copy of your valid California driver’s license. Active duty military may submit a copy of a valid out-of-state driver’s license.
- A copy of your DMV driving record and license status (driving history). Your driving record may be obtained online through the CA DMV website: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/online/dr/welcome. Please follow the instructions to obtain a printout, which must then be uploaded with your application. The driving record must come directly from the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Copy of military ID, DD214, or other proof of military service, if applicable
- Proof of agency sponsorship, if applicable (a letter from your sponsoring agency)
- Module II Applicants only: Copy of POST Profile showing completion of Module III (Academy certificates not accepted). [POST Profile is available online at www.post.ca.gov]. If Module III Course was completed prior to 04/10/22, must provide proof of current PC 832 Arrest and Firearms certification.
