CSIT Online Courses

Are you taking an online Computer Science or Information Technology course? Below you will find the information you need before starting your online course. Please read thoroughly before enrolling in an online course in the Computer Science and Information Technology Department to ensure you have the required resources to successfully complete the course.

General Course Computer Requirements

  • Access to a computer with an Internet connection.
  • Access to Palomar’s Canvas LMS located at https://www.palomar.edu/atrc/lms-login.
  • Access to your Palomar College student email. If you don’t regularly check your Palomar student email consider forwarding this email account to a personal email account. Remember, all official Palomar College email including emails from your instructors will be delivered to your Palomar College student email account.
  • Specific course requirements will be listed below.

CSNT 110 Hardware and OS Fundamentals

  • Purchase of TestOut LabSim PC Pro license is required. Login to course’s Canvas account before creating TestOut account.
  • Windows OS or MacOS operating system required to complete assignments.
  • Chromebooks and app-based tablets are not supported for this class.

CSNT 111 Network Fundamentals

  • Purchase of TestOut LabSim Network Pro license is required. Login to course’s Canvas account before creating TestOut account.
  • Windows OS or MacOS operating system required to complete assignments.
  • Chromebooks and app-based tablets are not supported for this class.

CSNT 181 Hacker Prevention/Security

  • Linux, Mac OS, or Windows OS operating system required to complete assignments.
  • Chromebooks, Windows 10s and app-based tablets are not supported for this class.
  • Installation of Oracle Virtual Box on student’s computer is required.
  • The computer must be able to operate at least 2 VMs at any given time, therefore, a minimum of 8 GB of RAM is required. A computer setup of 16 GB of RAM is preferred.
  • Some knowledge of Linux will be helpful, but not required.

CSNT 280 Computer Forensics Fundamentals

  • Windows OS-based computer required.
  • Linux, Mac OS and Windows 10s operating systems are not supported in this class due to lack of 3rd party app support.
  • Installation of 3rd party applications required.
