Spanish for Heritage Speakers and Native Speakers
Do you speak Spanish? Are you a Heritage speaker or a Native speaker of Spanish?
- For students who have already learned some Spanish through personal experience (e.g., family, home) and speak
conversational Spanish or beyond, but have never taken a class in Spanish.
Your placement is:
Spanish 211
- For students who have already learned some Spanish through personal experience (e.g., family, home) and
speak conversational Spanish; AND have taken 3 years of high school Spanish OR third-semester Spanish in college.
Your placement is:
Spanish 212 and/or Spanish 235
Group 2
Spanish for Beginners, and Non-Heritage Speakers of Spanish
Students who are learning Spanish for the first time, Adult learners of Spanish, Second-language learners of Spanish, Nonnative speakers of Spanish. Students who did not speak Spanish in their childhood.
- Students who have not taken any college-level course work in Spanish. OR
Students who completed one (1) year of high-school Spanish and earned a C or better.
Your placement is:
Spanish 101
- Students who have earned a C or better in first-semester Spanish in college. OR
Students who completed two (2) years of high-school Spanish and earned a C or better.
Your placement is:
Spanish 102
- Students who have earned a C or better in second-semester Spanish in college. OR
Students who completed three (3) years of high-school Spanish and earned a C or better.
Your placement is:
Spanish 201
- Students who have earned a C or better in third-semester Spanish in college. OR
Students who completed four (4) years of high-school Spanish and earned a C or better.
Your placement is:
Spanish 202 and/or Spanish 235
Group 3
Advanced Placement Exams
Students who have taken the Advanced Placement (AP) Exam in Spanish and received a score of 3 or higher.
- For students who have taken the AP Exam called “Spanish Language and Culture” and earned a score of 3 or higher.
Your placement is:
Spanish 202 or 212; and/or Spanish 235
- For students who have taken the AP Exam called “Spanish Literature and Culture” and earned a score of 3 or higher.
Your placement is:
Spanish 235
