APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED/equivalency [GC 1031(e)].
- Minimum of 20 years of age (NOTE: CA peace officers defined under PC 830.1 must be 21 years of age) [GC 1031.4(a)].
- Ability to read, write, and speak English consistent with the duties of a peace officer.
- Possess a valid California driver’s license. Active duty military may possess a valid out-of-state driver’s license.
- No felony or misdemeanor convictions in any state or military court that would restrict the possession of a firearm [PC 29800/29805]. Not on current supervision (including summary/court probation) related to a conviction.
- If not already registered as a student at Palomar College, complete a Palomar College student application online (www.palomar.edu) to receive a 9-digit student identification number.
- Submit a Basic Police Academy application online with all supporting documentation.
CONDITIONS FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE PROGRAM
Upon acceptance into the program, recruits are required to:
- Complete a Live Scan fingerprint check through the California Department of Justice to obtain a criminal history clearance for firearms eligibility. The Live Scan form will be provided upon acceptance into the Academy.
- Obtain a medical clearance by a qualified health provider. You must use the Palomar College Police Academy Medical Clearance Entrance Form and have it signed by a medical provider before the first day of the Academy. This form will be provided after acceptance into the program.
- Attend the mandatory Police Academy Preparation Course (AJ 85), which begins on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
The application deadline for Module III/Full Year is Friday, November 1, 2024 at 11:00 p.m. You should collect all necessary information and documentation immediately and ensure that you uploaded the required documents with your completed application.
Follow the instructions below for submitting your application:
- Apply to be a student with Palomar College (to obtain a 9-digit Palomar student ID number).
- Complete this application with complete and accurate information.
- Obtain the following documents, which must be uploaded with the application: (A PDF version of documents is preferred. If using a smartphone, please use a scanner app to create the PDF).
- Provide your 9-digit Palomar student ID number – if you are not yet a student at Palomar, we will provide instructions on how to obtain your student ID number
- A copy of all college transcripts, if applicable (unofficial copies/printouts are acceptable)
- A copy of a valid CA Driver’s License (out of state driver’s license with active duty military ID also accepted).
- A copy of your driving record from the CA Department of Motor Vehicles. This abstract MAY NOT be older than six (6) months from the date of the submission of this application. You may obtain your driving record online from the DMV (https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/customer-service/request-vehicle-or-driver-records/online-driver-record-request/). You must print and scan the printout to upload it – incomplete screen shots are not acceptable.
- Copy of military ID or DD214, if applicable
- Proof of agency sponsorship, if applicable (a letter from your sponsoring agency)
