Transfer Planning

Transfer Planning

Planning to transfer from Palomar College to a four-year university? Philosophy courses can be part of a strong transfer plan, whether you are majoring in philosophy, completing general education requirements, preparing for law school, or building the reading, writing, and reasoning skills needed in many academic and professional fields.

Transfer requirements vary by university, major, and campus. Students should meet with a Palomar College counselor as early as possible to create an educational plan that fits their goals.

Students beginning at Palomar College in Fall 2025 or later will generally use the California General Education Transfer Curriculum, known as Cal-GETC, for many CSU and UC transfer pathways. Continuing students who began at Palomar in Spring 2025 or earlier and have maintained continuous enrollment may still be following the older CSU GE or IGETC patterns. Because requirements depend on catalog year, university, major, and transfer goal, students should meet with a counselor before choosing courses.

Philosophy Courses and Transfer Requirements

The following philosophy courses are listed in the current transfer general education information. Students should confirm how each course applies to their own transfer plan with a Palomar College counselor.

  • PHIL 200: Critical Thinking

Cal-GETC Area 3B: Humanities

  • PHIL 111: Introduction to Philosophy
  • PHIL 114: Asian Philosophies
  • PHIL 121: Introduction to Ethics
  • PHIL 122: Social and Political Philosophy
  • PHIL 125: Philosophy of Human Nature
  • PHIL 126: Philosophy of Religion
  • PHIL 140: History of Ancient Philosophy
  • PHIL 141: History of Modern Philosophy
  • PHIL 142: Contemporary Philosophical Movements

Before You Choose Courses

Philosophy courses can satisfy important transfer requirements, but the best choices depend on a student’s educational goal. Before registering, students should check their transfer plan with a counselor, especially if they are applying to a competitive major, following an older CSU GE or IGETC pattern, or planning to transfer to a specific CSU, UC, private, or out-of-state university.
