Having a U.S. bank account is helpful for students manage their money. F-1 students can open a bank account in many types of banks.
When you look for a bank:
- Look for a free account, mention you are a student
- Banks will need information on your personal identity, and where you live. Be prepared to show:
- Passport
- SEVIS I-20 form
- Arrival to U.S. information (I-94)
- Home address
Banks may ask for a Social Security Number, if you do not have an SSN tell them you do not have a number and do not qualify for a number.
