Getting an Education Plan
Education Plan Intake Form for New Students 
Are you a new student who needs an education plan? Here’s how to get one.
- Complete the Palomar application and orientation.
- Complete the education plan intake form sent to your email from counseling@palomar.edu.
- Find your education plan in your MyPalomar Student Center under the My Education Plan link 5-7 business days after completing the education plan intake form. Here is a video on how to find your education plan.
- You will be emailed a link to book a 15-minute appointment with a counselor to discuss your education plan and make adjustments if needed. The appointment is optional.
- If you choose to book an appointment, prepare for your appointment by doing the following:
- View the Pre-Advising module before your appointment.
Click on “English” or “Accessible” to begin. Then, log in with your Palomar ID# and Palomar email address. View the module and answer the questions. This will take approximately 20 minutes. - Read the “Things to Keep in Mind” below.
- Explore Palomar Pathways.
- View the Education Plan Examples.
- Write down a list of questions for the appointment.
- View the Pre-Advising module before your appointment.
Things to Keep in Mind

Consider the following things before you begin mapping out your courses:
- 12 units or more is full-time – Good for students who work 20 hours/week or less. If you work 30 hours/week, consider taking 9 units or less. If you work 40 or more hours/week, consider taking 6 units or less.
- General Education: Use the online general education advising guides to view your menu of courses for general education.
- Major Coursework: Look at the requirements for an Associate degree or use www.ASSIST.org for CSU or UC majors. See more Articulation Agreements for private and out-of-states universities.
