Inside Wireman

A five-year apprenticeship program. Inside Wiremen install conduit, electrical wiring, fixtures, and electrical devices inside commercial buildings and in a multitude of industrial settings. Graduates of the Inside Wireman apprenticeship program become Journeyman Inside Wireman. Major duties for Inside Wiremen include:

  • Planning and initiating projects
  • Establishing temporary power during construction
  • Establishing grounding systems
  • Installing electrical service to buildings and other structures
  • Establishing power distribution with a project
  • Planning and installing raceway systems
  • Installing new wiring and repairing old wiring
  • Providing power and controls to motors, HVAC, and other equipment
  • Installing receptacles, lighting systems, and fixtures
  • Troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems
  • Installing and repairing traffic signals, outdoor lighting, and outdoor power feeders
  • Installing fire alarm systems

Inside Wireman Program Entrance Requirements

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Applicants must be at least a high school graduate, or have a GED, or have a two-year Associate Degree or higher.
  • Applicants must show evidence of successful completion of: one full credit of high school algebra with a passing grade, or one post-high school algebra course (e.g. Adult Education, Continuing Education, Community College, etc.) with a passing grade, or provide evidence of having successfully completed the NJATC Math Course, or of passing an internet-based, ETI approved Algebra course with the final assessment taken under the supervision of an ETI instructor.
  • Applicants must submit an officially-sealed transcript for high school and post-high school education and training. All GED records must be submitted if applicable. All documentation and transcripts must be available at the time of application.

Sound Technician

A four-year apprenticeship program.  Graduates of the Sound Technician apprenticeship program become Journeyman Sound Technicians. Sound Technicians are variously known as technicians, installers, and system designers. The types of systems they work on are:

  • Entertainment (audio, video, multimedia, and home and corporate theater)
  • Communications (telephone, fax, modem, Internet, local area networks, paging, intercoms, and public address systems)
  • Life safety (access control, burglar and fire alarms, video surveillance, and nurse call)
  • Control of indoor, outdoor, and specialty lighting
  • Other forms of home and building security, control and automation

Major duties of a Sound Technician include:

  • Installing, connecting, calibrating, and servicing products that move voice, video, audio, and data signals around premises
  • Installing, connecting, calibrating, and servicing products that control signals
  • Installing, connecting, calibrating, and servicing products that use signals to control mechanical and electrical apparatuses
