About the Program

Interior design is about understanding the visual and actual space. The Interior Design program at Palomar College is affiliated with the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA). Interior design students learn to create spaces that will be:

  • functional
  • aesthetically pleasing
  • safe
  • ergonomically sound
  • productively address a green commitment

Interior Design students at Palomar College learn:

  • fundamental principles of art and design
  • color principles
  • furniture arrangement
  • the design of lighting and architecture
  • interior building materials and interior construction documentation
  • green technology
  • presentation methods
  • professional design practices

After graduating, aspiring interior designers may take positions with interior design and architecture firms, design showrooms, or they can become independent designers running their own businesses.
