  • Part II: Beyond the Signs: Recognizing Cultural Expressions of Mental Health Distress Among Latina/o/x/e and Immigration-Impacted Community College Students

Workshop Description

Join us for an interactive workshop designed to strengthen your understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches to supporting students during times of stress and uncertainty, with particular attention to the experiences of Latina/o/x/e and immigration-impacted community college students. Participants will explore how personal, family, community, and immigration-related experiences can affect student learning, engagement, and overall well-being while considering practical strategies that support all students through trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices. Participants will learn practical strategies for creating supportive learning environments, recognizing signs of student distress, responding with empathy, fostering a sense of belonging, and connecting students with appropriate campus resources. The workshop highlights the important role all employees play in promoting student well-being, reducing barriers to learning, and supporting student success through everyday interactions with students. This workshop aligns with the California Community Colleges Vision 2030 by promoting equitable, inclusive, and supportive learning environments that contribute to student success.

This interactive workshop is fully in-person and available to all employees. Please register on the PD Portal.
