Online & Hybrid Classes

Currently the Economics program and the History program offer both Online and Hybrid internet courses.

Many students find that distance education opens the door to a convenient and flexible higher education.

Distance education can take many different forms though the majority offered at Palomar are offered online through an online Learning Management System (Though we have video/TV as well).

Online classes require well developed self-discipline and organization. It is important to remember that your online classes require the same amount of time and effort as on-campus classes.  If you work well independently and have solid study skills, online classes offer the opportunity to advance your education at your own pace. Be advised, the degree to which instruction is offered at a distance varies and some classes require in-person orientation, practice, and exams. Some programs may also have one class that must be taken in the face to face format – Hybrid courses. It is best to choose the option that best meets your needs and will lead to your continued success.

What is a “Hybrid” Course?
A Hybrid course meets at least 50 % of the course time required “Live” in a campus classroom each week.  The remaining course time would be delivered to the students online.

For example, with a standard 3 unit course, during the Fall semester there would be one scheduled meeting on campus per week, on a Wednesday from 11:10 am to 12:35 pm.  The remaining information for the course each week would be delivered to the students online, either through the Blackboard or Canvas Learning Management Systems.

Benefits of a Hybrid Course
A Hybrid course provides students with a gradual introduction to the online course experience, including an introduction to the technology involved with taking online courses, while also providing a “live” meeting with your instructor each week.
