Getting Started
The first step is usually the hardest! Anyone who wishes to attend Palomar College must submit a completed application for admission. Palomar College has over 30,000 students and most transactions are done through the Internet using eServices, “My Palomar,” an electronic portal for students and staff. Through eServices, “My Palomar,” you will be able to apply to Palomar, add and drop classes, purchase parking permits, apply for financial aid, pay fees, and view your grades.
Your first step is to complete an online application to Palomar College.
Please consult the current Palomar College catalog for all the admission criteria.
After you have submitted a Palomar College application you will be issued your Palomar ID Number and password.
AS or Certificate of Achievement Assessment:
If your goal is to earn an Associate’s degree or Certificate of Achievement your next steps are to take the English, math and reading assessment test, followed by an appointment with a counselor to develop an educational plan. Please refer to the information below about how to do these important steps.

After completing an application and getting your Palomar College ID, you should schedule a time for the English, math and reading assessment, advisement and orientation program, You may schedule your appointment by sending an e-mail to assessment@palomar.edu
Q: What is Assessment?
A: Assessment is the process the College uses to evaluate your skills in areas such as:
• Reading
• Writing
• Math
• English as a Second Language (ESL)
Assessment (the placement process includes multiple measures), advisement, and orientation are given several times throughout the year for the convenience of new, continuing, returning, and transfer students.
Assessment gives students knowledge of present levels of skills in math, English, and reading. Assessment, along with advisement and orientation, using computerized testing, takes approximately 3 hours, and includes receiving the results.
Advisement provides you with you immediate test results and gives direction in choosing the appropriate courses.
Orientation: Provides information on key topic areas such as the class schedule, college catalog, vocational and transfer programs and the registration process.

Scheduling a Counseling Appointment:
After you have applied and completed your assessment testing, your next step is to schedule an appointment to see a counselor for complete educational planning. Counselors are not assigned and it is your responsibility to find a counselor that you would like to work with.
Q: How do I schedule an appointment to see a Palomar College counselor?
A: You can schedule an appointment with a counselor by calling the Counseling Reception Desk at (760) 891-7511. Academic, career, and personal counseling appointments are provided in the Counseling Center in San Marcos located in the Student Services Center.
Academic counseling is available to students seeking assistance with scheduling or clarification of requirements. Academic counseling provides students with information about the requirements for the certificate and associate degree majors offered at Palomar including Social Work and Human Services and Alcohol and Other Drug Studies. Careful course selection is a key to a successful college experience and is subject to change, it is wise for students to consult with a counselor each semester.
Career Counseling is available to enrolled and prospective students on a walk-in basis and by individual appointment.
Personal Counseling is available to assist students find solutions to personal problems that may be affecting their academic progress.
