Inside the TLC

The Teaching and Learning Center is a dedicated multipurpose space for study, workshops, computer use, and information sharing.

 

Space Purpose What’s There Who Can Use It
TLC-100 Individual and Group Study
  • 10 tables for study use. Each table accommodates 1-4 students.
  • Comfy Lounge Chairs with a swing away laptop desk
  • Computer work area with12 PC desktops.
  • 2 collaborative tables with an attached computer monitor. Accommodates up to 5 students.
  • Moveable whiteboards
  • Floor outlets with data ports
  • Go Print (students must have credit on their account)
  • Laptops are available for students to use only in the TLC. Photo ID required for check-out.
  • The tables and computers in the central study area are available to currently enrolled Palomar College students who are working on assignments or projects for their class(es).
  • Computers may not be used for personal business or recreational use such as checking Facebook, browsing the internet or watching videos not related to homework, etc.

Group Study
  • Large table to accommodate 3-10 students

  • Writing stylus available for checkout with photo ID.
  • Interactive software available for download (to make annotations on the touch screen).
  • The collaborative study rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis unless reserved for an embedded tutoring session.
  • Room usage may be limited to 2 hours based on demand.
  • Study rooms are not general meeting spaces for student organizations, faculty or staff.
  • Reservations are not accepted.
TLC-111 Faculty Resource Center (FRC)
  • 1 large presentation table to accommodate up to 8 individuals.
  • Touch screen TV monitor
  • Whiteboards
  • Data port and outlets to connect  laptop devices.
  • Conference phone capabilities
  • Reading Lounge
  • Library – selection of books focusing on teaching strategies.
  • The FRC is for faculty and staff to use as a place to research, discuss, and use resources to aid in their professional growth and the development of new teaching strategies as it relates to basic skills instruction. It is not a general meeting or office hours space.
  • Priority is given to faculty groups who are requesting the FRC for the following purposes:
      1. FRC-sponsored events: Learning Community Events, Village Mentoring Program Events, Collaboratory, Teaching Squares, etc. 
      2. Events Focusing on the Promotion or Discussion of Basic Skills Programs, Courses, Instruction, etc. 
      3. Professional Development Office-sponsored workshops focusing on innovation in teaching.
      4. TLC Workgroups and Meetings.
      5. Individual Faculty who want to use the FRC to utilize available resources

To reserve the Faculty Resource Center, please complete the online room reservation form. All FRC room requests are reviewed and approved by the FRC Coordinator based on the above priority list and availability.
