Mission Statement
We are dedicated to supporting our Native American (American Indian/Alaska Native) students at Palomar College by providing a supportive space that honors their lived experiences. We are committed to fostering an environment where tribal traditions, values, practices, and sovereignty are respected and integrated, while also ensuring success within mainstream educational pathways. These supportive actions guide our Native students in developing their paths for their academic and personal goals.
Vision Statement
Our vision is to inspire and educate Native American students to strengthen and cultivate a new generation of Native leaders. Through the support and mentorship of our team including a Native Program Coordinator, Native Counselor, Native Peer Mentors, Native Elders in Residence and collaboration with the American Indian Studies Department and Tribal Liaison, all working towards providing career and educational guidance to our Native students so that they achieve success at Palomar College and beyond.
Support Provided to American Indian/Alaska Native Students:
- A safe and welcoming space in the Native American Resource Center
- Access to study spaces, computers, and printers, as well as English, Math, and Language tutors
- Academic counseling and advising services from a Native American Counselor
- Additional essential support services from a Native American Program Coordinator
- Workshops catered to students for further academic success, development, and culture
- Referrals to trustworthy community resources for students and their families
- Support for charting a course for associate degree and certificate completion programs, transfer opportunities to a four-year institution, and personal enrichment classes for lifelong learning.
Additional Services
Native Students Support Program for Inclusion, Resilience, and Education (NSPIRE) Program may offer the following additional services to eligible students:
- Book vouchers
- Educational supplies
- Transportation support
- All additional services are dependent on the availability of funds.
Eligibility for Additional Services
- Identify as an American Indian/Alaska Native student
- Enroll in at least one class
- Complete the Interest Form
