Title IX and Parenting Rights
Title IX, a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on gender, protects the rights of pregnant and parenting students on college campuses, including breastfeeding parents. Under Title IX, Palomar College must:
- Provide private, safe spaces for breastfeeding and pumping.
- Ensure students are allowed to take excused absences from class to breastfeed or pump.
- Prevent and investigate discrimination related to pregnancy and breastfeeding occurring in the educational environment.
