How Placement Works
California Assembly Bill 705 states that all California community colleges must use multiple measures to recommend English course placement. Your placement is based on the answers you provided in your application.
What Your Placement Means
English 100- Transfer-Level English
You’re ready for college-level English! Be prepared to work hard and engage fully.
English 50- Preparatory Courtse
You need to build a few foundational skills before taking English 100. This 4-unit course will prepare you for success next semester.
English 50A- Foundational Support Course
You may need more time and support to prepare for transfer-level English. This 6-unit course is designed to help you build the skills needed for English 100. Active participation is key.
To earn an A.A. degree, you must complete English 100 with a grade of C or better.
