1-Day Learner-Centered Teaching Conference 2014

This 1-day Learner-Centered Teaching Conference will be held at Palomar College on Saturday February 22, 2014. To kick off the day, our special opening keynote speaker will be Dave Burgess, author of the book Teach Like a PIRATE: Increase Student Engagement, Boost Your Creativity, and Transform Your Life as an Educator. Then, participants will have a selection of breakout sessions where active learning techniques will be demonstrated by involving participants in the learning process. The closing session will feature case studies on the effectiveness of learner-centered teaching and includes a raffle of great prizes. While the emphasis will be on higher education, all teachers at schools in San Diego County will find the topics useful in their teaching. The registration fee of $30 includes continental breakfast, lunch, break refresh-ments, and all conference sessions. The conference is limited to 150 registrants, so register early!

  • Location: Palomar College Student Union for opening and closing sessions; nearby classrooms will be used for breakout sessions
  • Cost: $30.00 inclusive of continental breakfast, lunch, snacks, opening keynote session, breakout sessions, and closing session and raffle ($32.04 w/service fee)

  1. Hello! I’m currently a student at Palomar. I don’t “teach” in a school, but I do work with high school students at La Costa Canyon High School as an A.V.I.D. Tutor (this is my third year). I also teach Catholic doctrine to 5th graders at St. Mark’s on a voluntary basis. Teaching is my ultimate career goal and I’m really interested in attending the teaching conference. Can I still go even though I’m not a teacher with a credential?
