About Me

Dr. José Briceño is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Chair of the Behavioral Sciences Department. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Justice Studies, a Master of Arts in Sociological Practice, and a Doctorate in Education. He teaches social justice statistics, justice studies, critical criminology, race and ethnicity, social problems, introductory sociology, and statistics for the social sciences. Dr. Briceño has taught in the Rising Scholars Program (formerly known as the Transitions Program) for justice-impacted student scholars transitioning to college and served as Service Learning Coordinator. Prior to these roles, Dr. Briceño served as a Research Analyst for the State of California, primarily focusing on social and economic data analysis and consultation. His current interests include promoting higher education outcomes for underrepresented and marginalized scholars.
