Become a Puente Mentor
“Mentors motivate, inspire, validate, support, guide, listen, and encourage. Mentors are caring and provide the external support that “can eventually translate into internal strength as students gain confidence and agency” -Rendon Linares & Munoz, 2011
As Mentors you can help students:
What should you know about Puentistas?
- Address factors that challenge college completion
- Explore career options
- Gain networking skills
- Increase their knowledge about college
- Learn about how to pay for college
- Develop study skills/time management/goal setting

Mentor Commitments
- Participate in the mentor training provided by the Puente Co-Coordinators
- Agree to spend at least 15-18 hours a year with your mentee
- Attend the Puente Mentor Mixer in the Fall semester, and participate in an informational interview with your mentee in the Spring semester
- If unable to, please work with your mentee and Puente Co-Coordinator to find alternatives
- Recognize that community college students need caring role models, and be a mentor that provides cariño to your mentee
