Pride Center to Combat Hate Statement of Solidarity:
Transgender & LGBTQ Immigrant Community Statement of Solidarity
The Palomar College Pride LGBTQ Resource Center stands in solidarity with our transgender and gender non-conforming immigrant siblings. We recognize the importance of living our true authentic self and we celebrate the intersecting identities of the LGBTQ+ immigrant population. It is our commitment to be a welcoming haven for each student where they are nurtured in becoming the best version of themselves. Collectively, we cultivate resistance against the duality of binary choices dictated by the current presidential administration, embrace resilience as a united community, and commit to learning and teaching about our intersectional familia.
The Transgender Law Center provides resources for trans people experiencing challenges accessing healthcare and navigating anti-trans laws and policies. The Palomar College Dreamer Success Program in partnership with Higher Education Legal Services, provides free immigration legal services to Palomar College students, staff, and faculty.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS:
Do not invite the police into your space – you are not required to open the door unless there is a valid warrant. You can talk with the officers through the door and ask them to show you identification and a warrant.
Ask the officer to slip the warrant under the door or hold it up to the window so you can read it. Officers can only search the areas and for the items listed.
Even if officers have a warrant, you have the right to remain silent. You should not answer questions or speak to the officers while they are in your house conducting the search.
You are entitled to legal representation in criminal proceedings.
