Anthropology 120, 205, 206:  Beginning and Advanced Archaeological Excavation

Excavations at the Los Penasquitos Ranch House

What:  The beginning excavation class (Anth 120) teaches basic  techniques, artifact identification, basic soil terminology, and an outline of local culture history.  The advanced classes continue this instruction with a focus on analysis of prehistoric (205) and historic (206) artifacts respectively.  Students are required to purchase a small inventory of personal field equipment.

When:  Excavation classes are held every Saturday 9:00 – 4:00 during the Fall semesters.

Where:  We are currently excavating near the Los Penasquitos Ranch House near Black Mountain Ranch Road in San Diego.  This site has cultural material extending from 7,000 B.C.E. to the present. Los Penasquitos Ranch House is one of the oldest historic structures in Southern California.

Who: This class has no prerequisites. Come join us!
