CVC Course Exchange FAQs

Have questions about taking online classes through the CVC Course Exchange? Here are answers to common questions to help you get started.

Getting Started

What is the CVC Course Exchange?
The CVC Course Exchange is a system that lets California community college students find and enroll in fully online classes offered by other colleges.

Who can use the CVC Course Exchange?
You can use the CVC if you are enrolled in a California community college, have completed at least one class at your Home College, have a 2.0 GPA or higher, and do not have any registration holds.

Do I need to apply to another college?
Sometimes. If a class is labeled “Add Class”, you can enroll directly through the CVC. If it is labeled “Apply”, you may need to apply to that college first.

Enrollment & Registration

What is a Home College?
Your Home College is the college where you are primarily enrolled (for example, Palomar if you are a Palomar student).

What is a Teaching College?
The Teaching College is the college offering the class you are taking through the CVC.

Can I take more than one class through the CVC?
This may depend on availability and your Home College’s policies. Check with your Home College if you are planning to take multiple classes.

Classes & Credit

Will my CVC class count toward my degree?
In most cases, yes—but you should check with a counselor at your Home College to make sure the class fits your educational plan.

Are all classes available through the CVC?
No. Only fully online classes are included. Classes with in-person requirements are not part of the CVC Course Exchange.

Will the class appear on my transcript?
Yes, but how it appears may depend on your Home College. Contact your Home College if you have questions about transcripts.

Financial Aid & Support

Which college handles my financial aid?
Your financial aid is handled by your Home College.

Who do I contact if I need help?
Start with your Home College. They can help with many issues or direct you to the right office. For course-specific questions, contact your instructor at the Teaching College.

Which college provides disability services?
Disability services are typically provided by the Teaching College offering the class.

Technical & Canvas Questions

How do I access my class?
You will usually access your class through your Home College’s Canvas system, even if the class is taught by another college.

What if I can’t log in to Canvas?
Start by contacting your Home College for login issues. If the issue is specific to the class, you may also need help from the Teaching College.

Still Have Questions?

If you’re not sure what to do next, your Home College can help guide you through the process.
