Welcome Students!

We are so excited you’ve found our CALM website. Now, to help answer some of our frequently asked questions!

What is CALM?

CALM is our Comets Affordable Learning Materials initiative. We are a collection of faculty, staff, and administrators who are working to help bring Low-Cost and Zero-Cost options for your textbooks!

Is this a scholarship? Do I need to apply?

No, CALM is not a scholarship, so there is nothing to apply for. We help your faculty find and choose textbooks which are low cost or zero cost for you in your classes.

How do I find a course with these low cost and free textbooks?

When you look for your courses in the online class schedule, you will find a logo next to sections which have either low cost or zero cost textbooks. Below are some helpful definitions (with the logos too):

Logo of an open book with a crossed out dollar sign on top indicating zero cost textbooks.

ZTC. Zero Textbook Cost

All required textbooks must be available for free to students. Frequently this means your ZTC courses will use digital materials. Your course may list the option to purchase a physical copy of the textbook, but all students must have individual access to the free option in order to qualify for the ZTC logo. You will not be required to purchase any textbooks.

LTC. Low Textbook Cost

The total cost of all required textbooks for this course must be $40 or less, as priced from the campus bookstore. (You might be able to find your books cheaper elsewhere too, but we use the bookstore prices to ensure all students are able to use their financial aid).
