(Required) Cal-GETC Certification Areas
The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) is the singular general education pathway for California Community College (CCC) students to fulfill lower-division general education requirements necessary for transfer and admission to both the California State University (CSU) and the University of California (UC).
A minimum of 34 semester units is required. Complete Areas 1A, 1B, 1C, 2, 3A, 3B, 4, 5A, 5B, 5C, and 6 with a grade of “C” (2.0) or higher. Each course used for Cal-GETC must be a minimum of 3.0 semester units or 4 quarter units. No partial certification is allowed for Cal-GETC.
The CSU graduation requirement in U.S. History, Constitution, and American Ideals American Ideals (AI) and the UC Language other than English (LOTE) requirement are optional and may be completed after transfer.

This requirement is met by selecting any asterick (*) lecture course with a lab from 5A or 5B or by completing any lab (L) course with its corresponding lecture. A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) is required.

This area is not required for Cal-GETC certification. The CSU U.S. History, Constitution, and American Ideals (AI) graduation requirement is not part of Cal-GETC. A course used to satisfy this requirement may also be listed and applied to Cal-GETC Subject Areas. As last verified on April 30, 2024, CA Ed Code Title 5, section 40404, allows CCCs to certify completion of the CSU graduation requirement in U.S. History, Constitution and American Ideals. CSU campuses have the discretion on whether to allow courses not certified by CCC to satisfy the CSU United States History, Constitution and American Ideals graduation requirement to also count for GE.

High School Courses
Completion of the second level of high school coursework in a language other than English with a letter grade of “C-“ or better in the second semester of the second year. In a non-English language institution, formal schooling through the sixth-grade level or higher is required.
College Courses
Satisfactory completion of a course (or courses) at a college or university equivalent to the second level of high school instruction, with a letter grade of “C” (2.0) or better. Exams
Exams including SAT Subject Tests in Language other than English, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate Higher Level (IBHL), or General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCE) Examinations.
