TEAM LIFE (2007–2018): A Legacy of Employee Wellness & Community Building

From 2007 to 2018, the TEAM LIFE Committee, originally known as the Wellness Committee, played a central role in fostering a culture of health, connection, and proactive self-care for employees. Guided by its mission, Together Evaluating, Assessing, and Managing Life Improvements for Employees, the group consistently offered accessible, inclusive, and engaging wellness opportunities. 1. Physical Health & Fitness Engagement

TEAM LIFE created regular opportunities for employees to stay active through a wide range of fitness programs, including:

  • Walking the track
  • Open swim

  • Jazzercise

  • Boot camp

  • Gentle and intermediate yoga

  • Wellness Fitness Center orientations

  • Training programs for the Carlsbad 5K and Half Marathon

These offerings supported varying fitness levels and schedules, making physical activity more approachable and sustainable for employees.

2. Preventive Health & Wellness Screenings

To encourage early detection and informed health choices, TEAM LIFE organized free biometric health screenings, helping employees better understand key health indicators and take proactive steps toward wellness.

3. Nutrition & Lifestyle Education

The committee emphasized practical, real-world wellness education through Wellness Wednesday workshops, covering topics such as:

  • Eating healthy on a budget

  • Making better choices at fast food and coffee shops

  • Dining out while eating healthier

  • Avoiding workplace-related weight gain

These sessions helped employees develop sustainable habits without judgment or unrealistic expectations.

4. Community Building Through Team Challenges

TEAM LIFE used friendly competition and shared goals to strengthen workplace connections, including:

  • Step challenges

  • Biggest Loser competitions

  • Group participation in the Grape Day 5K and Carlsbad 5K

These activities promoted accountability, morale, and a sense of belonging—key ingredients for long-term wellness success.

5. Holistic Approach to Employee Well-Being

Across more than a decade, TEAM LIFE consistently addressed wellness from multiple angles:

  • Physical activity

  • Preventive care

  • Nutrition education

  • Stress management

  • Social connection

Rather than focusing on one-dimensional health goals, the committee embraced a whole-person approach to employee well-being.
