In this presentation, Henry Lesperance speaks of the film Pies Lijeros, a film that he helped produce thanks primarily to the financial support of the Secretary of Culture in Mexico (CONACULTA). The film Pies Lijeros has been traduced to South Korean, Italian, German, Slovenian, and English and has been awarded many honorary mentions at different international film festivals across Latin America and Europe. The presentation situates Pies Lijeros within a historical legacy of Latine, Chicanx, and Hispanic filmmaking. Excerpts of the film will be screened during the presentation in order to explore the significance of Native American culture in the forging of Hispanic and Latine Culture in contemporary society.
