What about pages that aren’t on the old website but also aren’t on the draft?
The Task Force wasn’t charged to create new pages. There are a handful that were necessary for the revamp but overall we weren’t charged with that. If you have an idea for a page that is needed speak to the person who works on your web page or contact Chris Norcross (cnorcross@palomar.edu).
What about faculty pages? Can faculty members use the template?
Yes! Faculty members are encouraged to use the new template in WordPress or they may create their own faculty page if they choose to do so.
What is the timeline of this project?
The timeline is as follows:
- We released the draft on April 13
- We are gathering feedback until April 27
- We will incorporate appropriate changes by May 11
- ATRC will work with staff to transition web pages from May 12 – June 30
- We will launch the new website on July 1
Will there be focus groups?
There were 10 focus groups that took place between April 13 and April 27. Additional focus group sessions will be scheduled as needed.
Does everyone have to use the templates?
The task force is empowered to examine exceptions to the templates where they are appropriate. The criteria for exceptions include:
- If you have professional area with a very specific focus that relies on external criteria for maintaining the look and feel of your site and may also involve revenue generation, complex calendaring, scheduling & community involvement
- If the site is for internal use only
- If you have a 3rd party site that cannot be modified
- If you have a site that would require custom programming to conform to WordPress
Please send any queries to the Task Force Chair Dean Kahn at jkahn1@palomar.edu.
Will ALL the old webpages need to be transitioned by July 1?
Ideally, yes. It is anticipated we can get the majority by then and then work on the rest throughout the academic year.
How will we transition to the new site?
Workshops will be offered leading up to the launch of the new templates. For sites already using WordPress the transition will usually be simple. Non-WordPress sites will require more time to move into WordPress. Academic Technology staff will be available to assist with the transition.
Who is in charge of the Content Slider and the Showcase Images?
The Public Affairs Office will be in charge of those areas. Please contact Laura Gropen if you have inquiries at x2770.
Where can I find basic information about the draft again?
The draft templates can be accessed from the Website Revamp feedback site home page.
