This talk/walk will focus on fig diversity across the globe. With at least 850 different species many figs are the keynote species in their habitats. Towering high above the forest floor and in some cases a single tree can grow to cover acres of land. The forms of wildlife that depend on these trees in habitat are equally as diverse. We’ll also discuss the amazingly intricate relationship between figs, their pollinators and the predators that feed on the pollinators. At the conclusion of the talk we’ll walk the campus gardens to see a few of the most unique and beautiful specimens in the collection.
Attendees should bring water, comfortable walking shoes, and a hat or sunscreen for the walking portion.
