Taking Action
In the process of creating Ending The Silence, one overriding concept became very clear. Becoming an antiracist requires an ongoing commitment to actively working for antiracist policies. Repairing our nation’s trauma requires not only accepting the true story of our past, but taking concrete actions to dismantle the laws and policies that continue to perpetuate systemic disadvantages, and implementing new laws and policies that nurture both individuals and communities that have experienced generational devastation.
Below is a list of organizations working towards those goals that we find particularly compelling. (Please use the comments box at the bottom of the page to add your suggestions.)
Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation
The Center for Restorative Justice and Reconciliation
M4BL: The Movement for Black Lives
We really enjoyed the performance as well as the conversations afterward. Thank you for your brave words and all the work and hours putting this topic front & center for us.
Sadly, racism is not the only way that “otherism” appears in our country and the world. The hatred, division and ignorance rampant is overwhelming and often prevents us from doing anything at all because what can one person do against such gross pervasive & dehumanizing issues? (ableism, ageism, homophobia, gender definitions, transgenders, the planet, greed etc etc . But if I first change my own heart and then with compassion and a new understanding of our inter- connected realities go out into the world and relate differently to even one other person, or change one destructive thoughtless habit (eg plastic consumption) the world will be a little more kind, loving & healthy.
